prime

"prime" is a comedy talking about serious themes - responsibility, marriage and love. yet, this movie is too loose in structure that after you have watched it, you feel something is lacking. i simply feel there are bits and pieces and somehow they are not strong enough to bring out those themes.

i watched it because meryl streep is my favourite actress. she is simply great, no matter what role she is playing. in this movie, she is a mother of a young man (23 years old) who has a crush on a 37-year-old divorced woman. at the same time, she is also the counsellor of this divorced woman. so when this divorced woman told her counsellor about her sex life with the counsellor's son, you know how hard it is for the counsellor not only to listen but even to accept it as well. streep has done a great job.

a vast difference in age is a big problem to tackle even if this couple fall in love at the first sight. and marriage is not just a romantic fairy tale. there are a lot to face in everyday life practically. in addition to age difference, they also have different religions, life styles, habits, views on family, etc. afterall, marriage is a commitment and there is no "pilot test" to run beforehand. they finally end the relationship and i think it is a wise choice.

marriage involes so many aspects! sometimes ppl say that we can solve every problem if we have love, but in reality, just so many cases telling us, love only is not enough to bring 2 ppl to a successful marriage.

    so... which one is true?

if that love is only romantic love, it definitely is not enough to solve everyday problems in marriage. love in marriage involves also a commitment and your willingness to sacrifice.
